Ven pongal is a typical South Indian dish. It is very easy to prepare also. Eating hot ven pongal during a heavy rain will be so divine. The dish will be empty in seconds.it goes well with SAMBHAR and COCONUT CHUTNEY.
1.Raw rice – 1 cup
2.Moong dal – 1/4 cup
3.Water – 4 cups
4.Salt – 1 tbsp
1.Pepper corns – 1/2 tsp
2.Ginger – 1 inch
3.Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
4.Curry leaves – 3 sprig
5.Hing – 1/2 tsp
6.Oil – 4 tbsp
1.Wash he rice and soak it for 20 minutes.
2.Dry roast the moong dal in a kadai and wash it.
3.Add water in a pressure cooker and allow it to boil.
4.Add moong dal and cook it for few minutes.
5.Then add rice to it.
6.When it starts to boil add the salt immediately.
7.Add the tempering to the rice and mix it well.
8.After 1 whistle cook it for 15 minutes in low flame.
9.Add a spoon of ghee and mix it well.
1.Heat oil in a kadai.
2.Add ginger and pepper corns.
3.Turn off the stove.
4.Now add cumin seeds, hing and curry leaves.
1.The quantity of the moong dal can be increased.
2.When rice and dal are in equal ratio the taste of the pongal will be yummy.
