Apple Milk Halwa Recipe

Hi readers….Happy happy Tamil New Year to all….After a very looooooooong time writing a post due to personal work. On the top of that my kid is not letting me to work on laptop or mobile phone for more than 5 minutes :p Somehow managing and writing this post for past 2 days 😉

We have recently shifted to Dublin. Got only few kitchen items with me and it will take more time for other items to reach us. With the available items I have tried apple milk halwa which tasted super awesome. The recipe of the apple milk halwa is as follows. 

Check other sweet recipes….mysore pak, paal halwa, maida burfi, carrot halwa.

Check other apple recipes, apple dates milk shake and mixed fruit custard .

INGREDIENTS 

  1. Apple(medium) – 2
  2. Milk – 500 ml
  3. Sugar – 1/4 cup

PROCEDURE 

  1. In a pan or heavy bottomed vessel or non-stick vessel, add milk. Do not add water to it.
  2. Allow it to boil.                                             
  3. Wash and cut the apples into small pieces.                        
  4. Add the chopped apple to the milk.                                 
  5. Keep stirring and allow the apple to get cooked.                
  6. The milk will curdle now.               
  7. Add sugar to it.                            
  8. Continue cooking the mixture in high-medium flame. Keep stirring to avoid burning.               
  9. Allow the water to get evaporated. Keep stirring.          
  10. Turn off the flame once the mixture becomes dry.           
  11. Serve the apple halwa hot or warm.            

NOTE

  1. Apple milk halwa is very simple to prepare. Here is the basic version of apple milk halwa. You can enhance the halwa with ghee, cardamom powder and cashew nuts.
  2. The shelf life of this halwa is very less. If stored in refrigerator it will stay good for 24 hours.
  3. This halwa tasted good without adding ghee also.
  4. If you want the apple halwa to taste different, you can added vanilla essence instead of cardamom powder. Kids will like it.

Healthy Plantain Stem Poriyal Recipe

Plantain stem has good health benefits in it. It is rich in fiber. It aids in digestion. Weight watchers need to include fiber rich foods in their diet. It helps to reduce weight. Doctors recommend banana stem juice for kidney stone problems. Preparing the Vazhai thandu for cooking is much time consuming as you need to remove the fibers between the disks but considering the goodness of banana stem we need to do this.
Banana tree is the one of the trees, where every part of it useful to us. The banana leaf is used as the plate and used to steam few dishes. The banana flower is edible and it is used in cooking. Green plantain or raw banana is also edible. Banana is of course a fruit consumed by people of all ages.
The step by step procedure of the  plantain stem stir fry/poriyal is as follows. Check other plantain recipe….curd plantain stem , green plantain shallow fry and green plantain chips.

INGREDIENTS

  1. Plantain stem (medium sized) – 1
  2. Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
  3. Urad dal – 1 tsp
  4. Red chili – 4
  5. Curry leaves – 1 sprig
  6. Hing – a generous pinch
  7. Salt – As per the taste
  8. Oil – 1 tbsp

PROCEDURE

  1. Remove the layers of the plantain stem. Wash the last part of it.
  2. Chop them into small pieces.
  3. Heat oil in a kadai.
  4. Add mustard seeds to it. Allow it to splutter.
  5. Add urad dal to it. Allow it to turn golden brown in color.
  6. Add red chili to it.
  7. Add curry leaves to it.
  8. Add salt.
  9. Add hing. Mix it well.
  10. Add chopped plantain stem. Give a gentle stir.
  11. Saute till it is cooked well.
  12. Serve with white rice.

NOTE

  1. The plantain stem will change its color once it id chopped. So, prepare the poriyal immediately after chopping. To avoid this, put the chopped green plantain stem in a bowl of water & butter milk mixture. 1 tsp of curd can also be added.
  2. Adjust the seasoning as per the taste.
  3. To chop the plantain stem, remove the outer rings of the stem. There should not be any rings. First, cut the plantain stem into thin disks.You should remove the fibers between the disks by your fingers. Then, chop the disks into a smaller pieces and immerse the same in the butter milk and water mixture as this will preserve the original color of the plantain stem.

Tomato Flavored Aval – Variety rice in 2 minutes

Poha is a simple and easy dish. We can do variety of dishes using poha. Here is the recipe for tomato flavored poha. It is nothing but tomato rice prepared from aval.

If we have the tomato mix at home then we can prepare this dish within 2 minutes. Tiffin in 2 minutes saves our time.

Ready mix is available in many shops. Those mix can also be used. Working women and bachelors can prepare the mix previous day and use it in the morning. This mix can be stored in refrigerator upto 5 days.

INGREDIENTS

  1. Aval  2 cups
  2. Tomato – 3
  3. Shallots – (10-12)
  4. Ginger – a small piece
  5. Garlic – (2-3) pods
  6. Mint leaves – 1⁄4 cup
  7. Green chili – (1-2)
  8. Garam masala – 1⁄2 tsp
  9. Salt – 3 tsp
  10. Oil – 3 tbspSAM_1469

PROCEDURE

  1. Grind the shallots, ginger-garlic, green chili and tomato separately in a mixer grinder.SAM_1472
  2. Heat oil in a kadai.SAM_1476
  3. Add ginger garlic paste, onion paste, green chili paste and chopped mint leaves. Saute it for 2 minutes.SAM_1480
  4. Now add tomato paste, garam masala powder and salt to it and mix it well. Cook till the oil separates.SAM_1484
  5. Wash the poha well to remove the dust.SAM_1492
  6. Drain the excess water and add the poha to the tomato mix without squeezing the poha.SAM_1494
  7. Add turmeric powder and mix it well. Cook it for 3-4 minutes in low flame and garnish it with coriander leaves.SAM_1496
