Mojito with Rose Syrup Recipe

Rose Syrup is very handy during summer. If feeling tired and sweaty  during the summer due to the hot sun, this rose syrup makes quick drinks. The rose syrup when blended with milk and ice cubes turns out into a super cool drink. It can be mixed with water also.

Here is a small twist with the plain water to prepare the rose syrup mojito. For mojito, we need mint leaves and lemon juice. When plain water is replaced by soda water and mixing the mojito ingredients with rose syrup, we can prepare rose syrup/roohafza in seconds and enjoy the refreshment.

INGREDIENTS

  1. Rose syrup –  2  1/2 tbsp
  2. Mint leaves – 3 sprigs
  3. Lemon  juice – 1 tbsp
  4. Plain soda – 1 cup
  5. Ice cubes – 1 cup or As needed

PROCEDURE

  1. In a mixer grinder, add mint leaves an ice cubes. Pulse it for 2-3 seconds. You can also just break the ice cubes and mint leaves with a ladle
  2. Add more crushed ice as per the requirement.
  3. Add rose syrup.
  4. Add  lemon juice.
  5. Add chilled soda. Mix gently.
  6. Garnish with lemon wedge/ slice and  fresh mint leaves and serve.

Notes

  1. Ice cubes can be used as whole ice cubes also. The consistency is purely based on the requirement.
  2. If not using crushed ice cubes, then crush the mint leaves to get the fresh flavor of the mint leaves.

Healthy Ragi Malt Recipe

Ragi/Finger millet/Raagi/Kelvaragu  has various health benefits. Ragi flour is easily available in markets. Ragi is rich in calcium. It has more calcium than milk. Those who don’t consume milk can include ragi 2-3 times in a week.

Ragi aids in weight loss. It gives your stomach a full feel for a longer time. It also makes you strong. So it is very good for toddlers to improve their health.
The ragi malt can be consumed as a breakfast or as a tea-time drink. It cab be given to babies who are in weaning. The step by step procedure of ragi malt is as follows

INGREDIENTS

  1. Ragi Flour / Finger Millet Flour – 1/2 cup
  2. Water – 2 cups
  3.  Milk – 1 1/2 cups
  4. Sugar / Palm jaggery/ Jaggery/panang kalkandu – as needed
  5. Cardamom Powder – 1/2 tsp
  6. Nuts – as needed

PROCEDURE

  1. In a sauce pan, add palm jaggery and water.
  2. Heat it in low flame till the palm jaggery melts completely.
  3. Filter it to remove the impurities. Keep it aside.
  4. In a kadai, add ragi flour. Dry roast it for 3-4 minutes to remove the raw smell of the ragi flour.                                                          
  5. Add water little by little to it. Mix it well to avoid lumps.
  6. Now, add milk to it.                                                                                       
  7. Keep mixing at regular intervals to avoid lumps. Cook it till the mixture thickens.
  8. Add the palm jaggery syrup to the ragi-milk mixture.
  9. Add cardamom powder.
  10. Mix it well.                                           
  11. Top it any nuts of your choice and serve hot.

NOTE

  1. If you feel the ragi malt is very thick, them add little warm milk and give a quick stir. Serve immediately. If serving later, add milk only before serving.
  2. For kids, powdered nuts(cashew nuts, almonds, pistachios or walnuts) can be added.
  3. For those consume this ragi malt for weight loss, skimmed milk or low fat milk can be used instead of regular milk.
  4. For sweetner, I have used palm jaggery. Other sweetners like sugar, jaggery or panang kalkandu can be used.
  5. Do keep stirring the ragi malt at regular intervals to avoid burning.
  6. If preferred, this ragi malt can be served chill.
  7. Adjust the consistency of the ragi malt as per the taste desired. Alter the amount of water and milk as per the need.

Ragi-Cocoa Drink Recipe

The hot scorching sun in this summer tempts us to drink something chill. Here is a healthy yet tasty drink for this summer. Generally, ragi generates heat but the milk added will compensate that. Ragi has various health benefits. It is a rich source of calcium. The milk and ragi used in this drink makes double rich in calcium.

Check the note section for taste enhancement. Kids who hate milk and ragi will love this drink and enjoy till last drop for sure. The step by step pictorial procedure of this drink as follows.

Other summer drinks recipes, mango milkshake, homemade mazza, rosemilk, nannari-coconut water, jigarthanda, lassi varieties, cucumber smoothie, mango mojito and pearl miller porridge.

INGREDIENTS 

  1. Ragi flour/finger millet four – (2-3) tbsp
  2. Cocoa Powder – (1-2) tbsp
  3. Cold milk – 2 cups
  4. Water – 1/2 cup
  5. Sugar – As per the taste

PROCEDURE

  1. In a pan or kadai, add ragi flour.
  2. Add water little by little and mix it well so that there is no lumps is formed.
  3. Cook it in low flame till the mixture thickens. Keep stirring at regular intervals to avoid burning. Turn off the flame. Allow it to cool.
  4. Add cocoa powder to it. Mix it well.
  5. In a blender, add the ragi-cocoa powder mixture, sugar and milk.
  6. Blend it till creamy.
  7. Pour it in a glass and serve chill.

NOTE

  1. White sugar can be replaced with brown sugar, jaggery powder or cane sugar.
  2. If preferred, the ragi-cocoa drink can be topped with whipped cream.
  3. Few drops of vanilla essence can be added for flavor enhancement.
  4. Honey can also be added along white sugar for a good taste.
  5. You can top the drink with chopped nuts also.
  6. Vegans can go for almond milk or coconut milk instead of cow’s milk.
  7. For extra cooling, few ice cubes can also be added.

Non-Alcoholic Mango Mojito Recipe

Here comes the next mango recipe for this summer season. Mango mojito is a non-alcoholic drink. It is super refreshing with the kick of mango taste. The ingredients used are very simple and easily available. The carbonated water or soda used make this drink fizzy. But that makes it mango mojito.

Mojito is basically an alcoholic drink. This is a non-alcoholic version of mojito. The step by step procedure to prepare mango mojito is as follows

Check other mango recipes, mango milkshake, homemade mazza, mango shrikhand, mango lassi, mango kulfi, mango ice cream, mango popsicle, mango jam, mango sauce, aam panna and raw mango rice.

Check other summer drinks recipe, nanari-tender coconut water, rose milk shake, pearl millet porridge, lassi varieties, cucumber smoothie and jigarthanda.

INGREDIENTS 

  1. Mango – 1
  2. Lemon juice – 3 tbsp
  3. Mint leaves – 5 sprigs
  4. Sugar – 5 tbsp
  5. Sparkling water (soda) or Sprite – 6 cups

PREPARATION 

  1. Wash and peel the skin of the mango
  2. Roughly chop the mango pulp into pieces.
  3. In a blender, add mango pieces, lemon juice, mint leaves and sugar.
  4. Grind it into a fine paste. Add water only if required.
  5. Take a glass, add 2 tsp of the ground mango paste, add few mint leaves, mango pieces and lemon slices.
  6. Pour the sparkling water (soda) or sprite and mix it well.
  7. Serve chilled.

NOTE

  1. The excess mango pulp can be stored in refrigerator for upto 1 week. Add little sugar to it so that the freshness and taste will be preserved.
  2. Mojito can be served plain without adding mango pieces, mint leaves and lemon pieces also.
  3. If preferred ice cubes can be added before adding soda.
  4. Adjust the ingredients as per the taste required.

Refreshing Cucumber Smoothie Recipe

Hot hot sun making you hotter…..cool down with cucumber smoothie…Here is the recipe of very simple and easy cucumber smoothie with curd. Cucumber is great coolant. It is also a seasonal  vegetable which is edible as such. It has good amount of water content in it.

To enhance the cooling effect, we are going to add curd, mint leaves and cumin seeds to it. It is a perfect and healthy cool drink to our body when compared to aerated bottle drinks.

INGREDIENTS

  1. Cucumber – 1
  2. Curd – 2 tsp
  3. Mint leaves – 3 sprigs
  4. Roasted cumin seeds – 1/4 tsp
  5. Sugar – 1/2 tsp
  6. Salt – As per the taste
  7. Water – 1 cup

PROCEDURE

  1. Wash and peel the skin of the cucumber.
  2. Chop into slices.
  3. In a mixer grinder, add chopped cucumber.
  4. Add curd.
  5. Now, add fresh mint leaves.
  6. Add roasted cumin seeds.
  7. Add sugar to it.
  8. Add required salt.
  9. Finally, add water to it.
  10. Grind it well.
  11. Transfer it to a glass and serve.

NOTE

  1. You can serve it chill or plain as it is.
  2. If preferred, feel free adjust the ingredients as per the taste desired.
  3. Instead of curd, lemon juice can be used. If using lemon, the final output will be different in texture and taste.
  4. As this is smoothie & taking health benefits into account I haven’t strained the mixture. If you want, you can strain the mixture and extract the juice alone.

Simple Detox Drink Recipe From The Scratch

The eating habits we follow these days are not so healthy. We intake more of carbs, fats and sugar. This results in various health issues. Either, we should follow clean eating habits or compensate the junk foods. The food which are not healthy are usually very difficult to digest. They in turn, turn into toxins. We need to detoxify them.

There are many detox drinks and water available in super markets and in online. I got this detox drink recipe from a program in sun tv. It is said that, we need to consume this drink for minimum of 45 days continuously for weight loss.

I have mentioned here, how to prepare the powder and how to prepare the drink from the powder. It is very simple to prepare. I have slightly modified the preparation of the drink. I have added lemon juice and honey the drink at the last.

The results may vary from person to person. Am not a dietitian to ensure the results. The recipe of the powder and drink is as follows. This drink may incur heat. So, we have drink lots of water. We can also have buttermilk and tender coconut.
INGREDIENTS

  1. Cumin seeds – 50 gms
  2. Black pepper pods – 50 gms
  3. Clove – 50 gms
  4. Cinnamon sticks – 50 gms
  5. Lemon – 1/2 (optional)
  6. Honey – 1 tsp (optioal)

PROCEDURE

  1. Dry roast the cumin seeds in a kadai for few seconds.
  2. Transfer it to a plate.
  3. Dry roast the cinnamon sticks in a kadai for few seconds.
  4. Transfer it to a plate.
  5. Dry roast the black pepper pods in a kadai for few seconds.
  6. Transfer it to a plate.
  7. Dry roast the cloves in a kadai for few seconds.
  8. Transfer it to a plate.
  9. Allow it to cool.
  10. Transfer the contents to a mixer grinder. Do it in batches.
  11. Grind it into a fine powder.
  12. Keep the powder aside.
  13. Add water in a pan.
  14. Add 1 tsp of the ground powder to the water.
  15. Mix it well.
  16. Allow it to boil. Boil till the water reduces to half.
  17. Filter it. Allow it to become warm.
  18. Squeeze half of the lemon to it.
  19. Add honey to it.
  20. Mix it well and serve.

NOTE

  1. This drink on regular consumption may result in weight loss.
  2. In the original recipe, lemon juice and honey is not added. It is up to your choice. If adding lemon juice and honey, make sure the drink is warm to get the benefits of the lemon juice and honey.
  3. I can’t give guarantee on weight loss as it subjective to differ from person to person.

Mango Milkshake

Mango milkshake is a popular drink during this summer season in India. Mango milkshake is very filling and it simply recharges our body. Also mango is the favorite fruit of almost all the people in India. They are so sweet and juicy, no wonder they are called king of fruits.

Mango milkshake can be prepared from almond milk, cashew milk and soy milk instead of regular cow’s milk. For mango milk shake the mangoes should be juicy and not fibrous. The sour mangoes cannot be eaten. So sour mangoes can be used for milkshakes and juices. But it requires sweetener for taste.

The recipe for the mango milkshake is as follows. Try this and enjoy this summer with mango milkshake. Mangoes available in this season are tasty and healthy than other mangoes available in off season.

INGREDIENTS

  1.  Mango ( medium size ) – 2
  2. Milk – 2 cups
  3. Sugar or jaggery – 2 tsp
  4. Ice cubes – As required

PROCEDURE

  1. Wash the mangoes and peel them.
  2. Chop the mango pulp into small pieces.
  3. Add the mango pulp into the blender along with milk
  4. Add the sugar or jaggery as per your taste and also considering the sweetness of mangoes.
  5. Ice cubes can be added at this stage or the ice cubes can be added while serving the mango shake.
  6. Blend everything till smooth.
  7. Top few ice cubes over the mango milk shake and serve it cool.

NOTE

  1. Sugar or jaggery can be avoided to enjoy the natural flavor of the mango.
  2. If the mangoes are sour more sweetener need to be added.
  3. Honey can also be added as a sweetener.
  4. Ice cubes are optional.
  5. Vegans can use almond milk or soy milk instead of cow milk to prepare the mango milk shake.
  6. Safforn strands and dry fruits can be used for garnishing.

Orange Lassi

  1. Curd  – 2 cups
  2. Fresh orange juice – 1 cup
  3. Sugar – (3-4) tbsp
  4. Ice cubes – As required

PROCEDURE

  1. Add curd, fresh orange juice, sugar and few ice cubes in a mixer grinder.
  2. Blend it well.
  3. Top it with ice cubes and serve chill.

NOTE

  1. Honey can be used instead of sugar.
  2. Water can be added if thick consistency is not preferred.

Simple sweet lassi

Sweet lassi is a typical North Indian summer drink. It is a famous drink in Punjab and Rajasthan. When lassi is served in mud glass it tastes heavenly.

INGREDIENTS

  1.  Chill curd – 1 cup
  2. Sugar – 2 tbsp
  3. Ice cubes (optional) – As required

PROCEDURE

  1. In a mixer grinder, add curd,sugar and few ice cubes. Blend it well till the the curd becomes creamy.
  2. Wooden churner can also be used instead of mixer grinder.
  3. Top it with few more ice cubes and serve chill.

NOTE

  1. Sweet lassi can be served plain without ice cubes also.
  2. If preferred it can be topped with chopped dry fruits and saffron strands.
  3. Crushed cardamon can also be added.
